Feel Free from Interview Anxiety

With the Backward Spin Technique

When you know you have an interview coming up and you start to think about it, you can easily bring on all of the anxious feelings without actually being there.

You might feel that you just want to push it out of your mind, deciding that you’ve got a while yet before the date of the interview and agreeing with yourself that you’ll think about it another time.

The last thing you want to do is ignore those feelings.

and instead use them as an opportunity.

An opportunity for change.

Anxiety is a feeling in the body, a physical feeling

and if just for a moment you really focus in on that feeling, you’ll notice that it’s moving.

As if its spinning through your body.

This is what I want you to do.

I want you to notice whereabouts in your body you feel the anxiety. 

Once you have located it, notice which direction it is spinning.  You might find it helpful to use your hand to replicate the direction of that spin.

Now, imagine that you could move that spin outside of your body, so it’s still spinning but now it’s spinning on the outside.

Now, I want you to reverse that spin …

Again, use your hand to help you to reverse that spin …

And as you do, imagine bringing the spin back inside your body …

Notice how different it feels now …

Start practising this at least every day, or even a few times a day if you can.

You’ll begin to notice the difference.

The more you practice, you’ll start to notice that it gets easier each time to change that feeling …
