Feel Free from Interview Anxiety

With the 7/11 Breathing Technique

The last time I had a job interview I remember how terrifying it was.

Sitting in the waiting room, heart thumping so much that I felt I couldn’t sit still …

We want to make a good impression …

The job is really important to us …

… but once we’re in there the nerves take over

We can’t think clearly …

We forget everything we’re prepared …

This is what I want you to start practising.

It’s called 7/11 breathing.

It works by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system.

You may have heard of the ‘fight or flight’ response when you’re in a state of panic, well, this is the opposite of that and this is how its done.

You breathe in for 7, hold it for a moment then breathe out for 11.

It doesn’t have to be exactly 7/11, you could do 3/5 for example but the main part is that the out breath is almost twice as long as the in breath because those out breaths decrease your blood pressure and slow your heart rate.

Start practising this now, a few times a day will lower your overall stress levels and the next time you’re in an interview situation you’ll notice the difference.
